School Philosophy

Garth Worthington School works to support the vision, mission, values and initiatives set by Edmonton Public Schools:

VISION:

Transforming the learners of today into the leaders of tomorrow. Success, one student at a time.

MISSION:

We inspire student success through high quality learning opportunities, supported by meaningfully engaged students, parents, staff and community.

VALUES:

Supporting the Vision, Mission and Priorities are the District's cornerstone values of accountability, collaboration, equity and integrity.

Garth Worthington School is more than just a place of learning - it’s a community!

Our school is designed with the principles of 21st Century Learning in mind! We want to allow for collaboration, developing critical thinking and problem solving skills.

We spend just as much time with our classmates, teachers, school staff as we do with our family members. It’s like our 2nd family! Relationships are important to us!

We want to know what interests you as a learner! What are your interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes? Favorite subjects: Art - Music - Sports - languages - science - writing - reading

We need to prepare students for the world around us - How to adapt, change, problem solve, critically examine, work together, become LEADERS who contribute to our community!

We believe the skills, knowledge and attitudes of each student should be developed to the fullest extent possible.

Leader in Me is a whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a Leader. This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. We focus on developing the whole-child by:

  • teaching LEADERSHIP to every student,
  • creating a CULTURE of student empowerment,
  • and aligning systems to drive results in ACADEMICS.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is one of the key frameworks of the Leader in Me process. In addition to helping students learn and apply leadership skills, the 7 Habits give us a common language in building a supportive emotional environment
